Coming Soon: HKS Technical Factory Built 2012 Toyota 86 GT

HJA are delighted to have secured this HKS Technical Factory built 2012 Toyota 86 GT.

This is not a normal GT86 with a few bolt-ons. This is a properly developed HKS Technical Factory build, featured by Motor-Fan as an owner car finished to what they described as shop demo car level quality. The car started life as an automatic Toyota 86 chosen for ease of driving, before being taken to HKS Technical Factory where its serious tuning journey began.

The car originally ran an HKS GT supercharger setup, but the owner wanted a more aggressive, traditional tuned-car feeling, with the stronger boost delivery and character of a turbocharged package. The result was a move to the HKS GTIII-RS turbine kit, combined with HKS’s 2.1L Capacity Upgrade Kit, producing a recorded 345ps and 43.0kgm of torque.

What makes this car especially interesting is the automatic transmission package. Motor-Fan explains that while the 86’s AT can work well with flatter supercharger torque, a turbo setup places much greater load on the transmission during shifting. HKS Technical Factory addressed this with their own reinforced AT maintenance and strengthening menu, increasing line pressure and clamping force to help suppress slip under turbocharged torque.

Finished in silver, this 2012 Toyota 86 GT was purchased from auction with a 4.5 grade and B interior grade, showing just 47,075km. The auction sheet confirms it as a DBA-ZN6, GT grade, 2WD, automatic, petrol car, with Japanese shaken valid until 14 June 2027.

HJA Comment

This is exactly the sort of car we love to buy: a known Japanese tuner build, put together by one of the most respected names in the industry and packed with serious parts from HKS, VARIS, TRD, Defi, RECARO, BBS and Power Craft.

The Motor-Fan feature makes clear that this is more than just a power build. It was created as a car that could deliver real turbocharged performance while remaining usable and comfortable, retaining equipment such as air conditioning and navigation. The article also notes that racing driver Seijiro Aihara praised the package on circuit, commenting positively on the 86 automatic’s ability to stay in the power band and deliver strong acceleration without relying heavily on manual paddle input.

HKS Technical Factory’s Kikuchi also described the car as a specification capable of genuinely enjoyable circuit driving while still being comfortable for everyday street use, helped by the smooth, seamless acceleration that suits the automatic transmission.

A rare opportunity to own a genuine HKS Technical Factory built ZN6 Toyota 86, combining a 2.1L HKS turbo engine package, reinforced automatic transmission, VARIS aero, serious braking hardware and real Japanese street-and-circuit presence.

Coming soon to HJA.
